Today is National Sunglasses Day, so it’s the perfect time for me to tell you why it’s incredibly important to protect your eyes with sunglasses that have UV lens protection.
Here are 5 reasons why we all need to be wearing UV lens sunglasses every single day:
1. Amazingly, 94% of people don’t realize the sun can be just as harmful to their eyes as it is to their skin.
Frankly, until I began doing more research for this post, I was one of them. Sure, I knew that my sunglasses stopped me from squinting. (Hopefully they looked cute too.) Yet I had no idea how much damage the sun can do to our eyes.
2. While our eyelids are designed to protect the eyes, its skin is exceedingly thin and contains fragile tissue that may be injured by UV light.
Since none of us are likely to grow thicker eyelids any time soon, UV lens sunglasses seems like the way to go.
3. The lens and the cornea of the eye filters UV rays, but may become damaged after doing so for many years.
This is especially true for the lens, which through years of UV absorption and can develop cataracts. As someone who has family members that have dealt with cataracts, it’s a fate I’d like to avoid.
4. UV damage is instrumental in causing multiple types of eyelid and eye cancers.
And NOBODY wants that.
5. Up to 50 % of UV rays that reach the eyes come from reflection off the back surface of the lens.
Who knew? Not me, that’s for sure.
I don’t know about you, but I’d like my eyes to work for a while longer and remain cancer free, if possible. So now that I know better, I’m going to do a better job of protecting them and make an effort to wear UV lens sunglasses every day. On this National Sunglasses Day, I’m feeling grateful to the folks at Xperio for teaching me about the importance of doing a better job of protecting my eyes.
Xperio UV polarized sun lenses provide maximum UV protection. They protect your eyes from glare and harmful UV rays with protection on both the front and back of the lens. They’re scratch resistant and clean easily too.
What I personally love about the Xperio lenses is that they can be fit to a wide variety of prescriptions and frame sizes. They come in a variety of color options and coatings. That means you can choose the lens that matches your personal style.
When I received my Xperio lenses to try, I was surprised and impressed by the ability to still see so much color with my sunglasses on. Often I find sunglasses to be dark and dreary, which is perhaps why I don’t wear them often enough – until now.
So how do you get these UV polarized sun lenses? By talking to your eyecare professional. For more information, go to http://www.xperiouvusa.com.
