Add a personal touch with DIY Valentine’s Day cards with a hint of your favorite essential oil scent. This little trick seriously could not be easier, and it is sure to make someone’s Valentine’s Day a little brighter.
If you have a signature essential oil fragrance, you could add that to a card that you are sending to your partner, or perhaps include a fun “guess the oil” game for your children. Some popular oils to use on their own or as blends may be Lavender, Orange, Lemon, Lime, Cinnamon Bark, Peppermint, Stress Away, Valor, or Joy. This is also a great way to use those last few drops of a bottle, like I am planning to do with my Christmas Spirit oil. This can be based on your personal preference or that of your recipient. Ocotea happens to be one of my favorite scents, so I would use that one as well. For a more romantic scent, you may also consider Jasmine, Dragon Time, Lady Sclareol, or Sensation.
How to make DIY Valentine’s Day cards scented with essential oils:
Choose your cards, whether store bought or handmade. You may also put the envelopes in the bag if you wish. However, I prefer to leave them out, so that the scent is revealed as the recipient pulls the card out of the envelope upon receiving it.
Fold a paper towel into quarters. You may prefer to use a piece of fabric instead of the paper towel. Put 5-10 drops of your desired essential oil or oil blend onto the paper towel. If the recipient(s) are highly sensitive to smell, use no more than 5 drops of oil. Sometimes less is more.
Fold the towel once or twice more, so that the drops of oil are not seeping through the paper towel. Place your store bought of homemade cards and the folded paper towel between into a large plastic storage bag. (This is a great way to get a second use out of plastic bags.) Lay it flat and seal the plastic bag. Let it sit for 24 hours (or more), so that the scent of the oils will permeate through cards.
When you are ready to use the card, just take it out of the sealed bag and send it to your loved one. Easy, peasy!
