Before starting off this post, I should probably point out that I do not consider myself an endurance athlete. I am, however, about to participate in my second Susan G. Komen 3-Day, walking well over 60 miles (plus at least 10 “Komen Miles”) in what is affectionately well known as “Hilly Philly.
Though an athlete, I have never run a marathon or participate in a triathlon – and more than likely never will. Yet I know now about a grueling event that requires endurance training, drains the muscles and exhausts the body.
Endurance sports are defined as a subset of sports that are aerobic in nature, in which the goal is prolonged athletic output over an extended distance or for an extended period of time. Having been through the Susan G. Komen 3-Day before, I can say with certainty that it qualifies as an endurance sport.
Endurance athletes are often a calm and collected group, on race day and every day. Some of this can be attributed to the fact that they deal with both physical and mental stress by rising to the challenge. It may also be due to their preparation.
So, to prepare myself for what is sure to be another mind-over-body experience, I am stocking up on Young Living essential oil products. Here are the products I’ll be using beforehand for endurance training as well as during the actual event:
