Now this is my kind of party. In Celebration of Jerry Garcia’s Birthday, the Playing For Change Foundation and the Jerry Garcia Foundation have announced that they are inviting us all to participate in an “acts of kindness” social media art project.
The project will support the mission of bringing music education programs to children around the world.
Foundation co-founder, Keelin Garcia, joins Jimmy Buffett, David Crosby, Bill Kreutzmann, and David Hidalgo, on a newly released version of the Grateful Dead’s song, “Ripple”. Jerry’s Fender Stratocaster guitar even makes an appearance in the music video.
The video of “Ripple,” comes hand-in-hand with the #RippleEffect social media art project. The project, invites people from all over the world to create a visual “ripple effect” as they share stories of gratitude and kindness via social media.

The #RippleEffect #StoriesofGratitude social media art project is being launched on Jerry Garcia’s Birthday, August 1st and will continue into the coming months. Everyone around the world is invited to participate by sharing their stories of acts of kindness or gratitude on a social media platform such as Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram. Participants may create their own artistic interpretation of a visual #RippleEffect using photos, videos or art materials with added hashtags: #RippleEffect #StoriesofGratitude, #GlobalArt #JGF #PFCF.
Select submissions will be included in a compilation video to be released on Playing For Change Day 2015 on September 19th. Playing For Change Day was created in 2011 to unite the global community through the power of music to affect positive social change. On Playing For Change Day, communities will gather as musicians and music lovers from all over the world to perform on stages, street corners, schools, yoga studios, and cafes all with the goal of bringing music into the lives of young people. A #RippleEffect Global Art Collage will also be constructed and shared on the Jerry Garcia Foundation website and travel in an exhibition featuring the art of Jerry Garcia.
So go on and make a #RippleEffect!
