Recently I wrote a statement within a post that seemed to really resonate with readers. It was about how I maintain a sense of balance by making an effort to put myself on the list.
Between work, home, and parenthood, our lists are long, people. You may have also noticed that those to-do lists are never fully completed either. Sure, you might feel a sense of accomplishment when you finish your daily list, but upon waking up the next morning there is always more to get done.
Sanity comes with making sure that YOU are on the list. (As an introvert by nature, this is something I learned quickly after having children.) Your time here is limited, and while there are tasks that do need to be completed, you should always carve out some time for the things you want to get done – for YOU.
If you have not been putting yourself on the list until now, you are not alone. A recent survey conducted by Domain.ME revealed that 70% of Americans feel they don’t take regular “me time.”
Let’s change that so we can all feel a sense of balance. Let’s get rid of the notion that we should feel guilty for making ourselves a priority.
Are you ready to get started? Here’s what I want you to do. First get out your calendar. Then, mark off March 16th. You can mark off the entire day, or just part of the day. Now, on that date I want you to write two letters in caps – M and E. March 16th is now your ME Day.
Actually, this March 16th will be the first ever International ME Day. ME Day is a day to take out some time for yourself. If you need any ideas for how to spend ME Day, here are 25 of them:
Read a book.
Get a pedicure.
Go for an extra long run.
Have lunch with friends.
Try a new workout.
Take a hike.
Call an old friend who always makes you laugh.
Make a DIY project.
Splurge on that item you wanted.
Organize your office.
Try out a new recipe.
Go to the spa.
Take up a new hobby.
Take up an old hobby.
Go to the movies, or watch one on television.
Eat an ice cream cone.
Too cold for ice cream? Enjoy a big cup of hot cocoa – with marshmallows. And whipped cream.
Call your grandmother.
Host a party.
Start your spring garden.
Plan a vacation.
Want to know what I’ll be doing to celebrate ME Day? On March 16th, I’ll be treating myself to a wonderfully relaxing massage. The folks at Domain .ME found out that most people looking for a ME Day would love to go to a spa, and boy were they right!
What will YOU be doing to celebrate ME Day?
