In the first quarter of 2015, I set a weight loss goal for myself. Over the previous six months I had let myself go a little, and just needed to get it back. I will never be a swimsuit model, and that is okay by me. Being healthy and comfortable in my skin are always my two biggest priorities.
Fortunately, knowing how to maintain optimal health is not the issue, since wellness is one of my biggest passions. My main issue with maintaining a comfortable weight is consistency. As most working parents know well, no matter how well you try to schedule your week, things come up. Then you find that these things (sick kids, days off from school, unscheduled conference calls, updated deadlines, etcetera) are coming up week after week… after week. Throw in a holiday, a couple of birthdays, and a few nights out with friends, and suddenly you might find that you have veered way off course.
Self-sabotage is also strong in my history. When I’m at a comfortable weight for a while, I start to indulge more than I should. Then, suddenly, I’m at a weight that is outside of my comfort zone again.
Accountability is just what I need to stay on course all the time. That is why I was excited to learn about a neat new service called GOQii. It is a platform that combines one-on-one health and fitness coaching with tracking technology.
Here’s how it works. You can use the GoQii band or your own device to measure your sleep and activities. You can also sync with other popular health apps, such as MyFitnessPal. Your coach will be able to keep an eye on your activities as he or she guides you to achieving your health and fitness goals.
Your goals don’t have to be the same as mine to join. They could be as simple as eating more vegetables or getting more sleep. They can be as clear as improving your running time by a certain percentage. You get to choose the right coach for you from a roster of screened and certified health coaches based on your individual needs. GoQii has experts in nutrition, psychology, and fitness, who will get you motivated and keep you engaged.
The coaches are there to guide and support you to make lasting improvements in your health and wellbeing. They can help you set goals, create new habits, and break old habits, all while keeping you motivated and accountable.
Want to know the best part? There is even a social good component! Just for meeting your daily goals, you can earn Karma Points. When you donate your points to worthy causes, an actual donation will be made from GOQii’s donor partners. Now that is a fantastic way to stay on track!
GOQii sounds pretty great, doesn’t it? The price is great too. The service is only $99 for the ENTIRE YEAR. That is less than less than a new pair of high-end running sneakers, less than most weight loss programs, and less than one or two sessions with a personal trainer, nutritionist, dietician, or personal coach. That is not too shabby.
If you have a health or fitness goal that you would like help with, why not give it a try? You can find out how by applying through their website at http://us.goqii.com/.
In the next few weeks, I will be writing more about my GOQii experience, and I hope you will join me along the way!
