Between work, homework, home life, meals, carpools, doctor appointments, bedtime, and so on, the life of a mother is just plain hectic. More and more, I have noticed this clear as day pattern when talking with women about the benefits of essential oils for their families. Interestingly, it is always the moms who inquire about the essential oils, for their children, their husband or their own medical needs. They want a natural alternative to promote their family’s overall wellbeing.
Though what I have noticed since I began as a Young Living distributor is that these same women never inquire about oils for their own emotional needs. Yet we women all feel an emotional tug, whether it is the daily life stress of trying to get it all done or something much more. On top of that, many women are coping with children who have extra medical and/or emotional needs, and perhaps husbands or other family members who have them as well. All of this may leave us feeling mentally drained, physically exhausted, and spiritually depleted.
It seems that mothers put everyone else first, and from what I can see, that leaves moms all the more in need of something to serve their own emotional wellbeing. Moms, you deserve to take care of yourself too! You deserve to do something that will promote your own best self. So with that said, here (in my opinion) are some of the best essential oils for moms’ wellbeing:
Oils in the Premium Starter Kit:
Frankincense has a sweet, balsamic aroma that is known to be stimulating and elevating to the mind. Frankincense is considered the holy anointing oil in the Middle East, where it has been used in religious ceremonies for thousands of years. It has comforting properties that may help focus the mind. If you suffered from “Mommy Brain” when your kids were (or still are) younger, you too may enjoy a little focus boost! Many oil users find it useful for visualization, for improving spiritual connection, and for centering.
Lavender has a floral, herbaceous scent that many users find to be soothing and refreshing. Lavender is an adaptogen, which means that it can assist the body when adapting to stress or imbalances. You can diffuse or inhale lavender essential oil to calm your mind, body, and spirit after long day. It is also great for skincare, so you can get a nice whiff of that calming scent while soothing your skin too.
Joy™ is a blend of several exotic, romantic scents that are meant to ignite energy and happiness. For moms who are simply feeling worn down, Joy can be refreshing and uplifting. It can be diffused applied topically to the wrists, temples or neck area. Dilution with a carrier oil may be helpful for extremely sensitive skin.
Stress Away™ comes in a roll-on or regular bottle, though it is the bottle that is included in the Premium Starter Kit. Stress Away is a unique essential oil blend of vanilla, lime, copaiba, and cedarwood. Stress Away is my favorite! In fact, I know several women who wear it daily on their wrists and neck instead of perfume. It was created to combat the stresses that creep into everyday life, especially the everyday life of a mom. It helps to promote feelings of relaxation, reduced tension and equilibrium. Stress Away can be diffused or applied generously to the wrists, temples, or neck.
Other Oils for Moms’ Emotional Wellness:
Peace & Calming® is a gentle essential oil blend that is intended to help promote relaxation and release from tension. This blend is wonderful for moms, and is also suggested for children who might need help settling down after a stressful day. Peace & Calming is recommended for use in a diffuser. It can also be applied topically, particularly as massaged into the bottoms of the feet before bedtime. Dilution with a carrier oil may be helpful for those with extremely sensitive skin.
Valor® is an empowering combination of essential oils that is known for its strengthening qualities. Valor helps to promote energy alignment in the body, which allows it to work on both the physical and spiritual at the same time. Valor can help to increase one’s sense of courage, easing anxiety while promoting confidence. It is a great one for those moments when you feel like you just have one too many items on your to-do list, or when you need to have a difficult conversation with a co-worker, teacher, or your significant other. Valor, when applied to the big toe, can also help to ward off a restless night’s sleep. You can diffuse Valor or apply it to the temples, down the spine, on the back of the neck, on the wrists, or behind the ears.
White Angelica™ is a calming and soothing blend that can encourage feelings of strength, protection and security. For this reason, White Angelica is a popularly diffused scent in yoga studios. Many people use it daily as protection against negative energy. White Angelica can be diffused or used topically. It is also said to be excellent in a bath. When applying White Angelica topically, wear it on the top of your shoulders, along the spine, or on the crown of the head. It can also be used on the wrists, behind ears and on the back of the neck.
White Angelica should not be used on skin that is exposed to direct sunlight or UV rays, as it is light sensitive. It also has a base of almond oil, which should be noted for people with allergies or skin sensitivities.
RutaVaLa comes in a roll-on or regular bottle. It is a proprietary blend of essential oils that promotes relaxation of the body and mind. It may ease stressed nerves and aid in a restful night’s sleep. It was developed to helps overcome negative feelings while encouraging a positive attitude and comfort. Sounds wonderful, does it not? RutaVaLa is intended for topical use only. It is light sensitive, so avoid direct sun or UV rays up to 12 hours after applying.
Inspiration™ is a unique, interesting oil blend as it includes several oils traditionally used by the native peoples of Arabia, India, and North America for enhancing spirituality, prayer, meditation, and inner awareness. Inspiration creates an aroma that is designed for those in need of meditative and spiritual guidance. You can diffuse Inspiration, or wear it on back of neck, sides of the forehead, crown of the head, bottoms of the feet, or along the spine.
Sacred Mountain™ is loved by those who feel peace from being close to nature. When you are helping with homework, stuck in your office, or driving kids from one activity to the next, Sacred Mountain is a great reminder of those quiet moments spend walking or hiking outside. It is a blend of conifer oils, including spruce, fir, and cedarwood, to promote feelings of strength, empowerment, grounding, protection, and sanctity that many find from being outdoors. Sacred Mountain is meant for aromatic use. Diffuse it or apply it to the crown of the head, the forehead, base of the head, chest, wrists, or behind the ears.
Juniper has a clean, mildly penetrating, woody scent that has a cleansing effect on the mind, spirit, and body. It can promote feelings of self-confidence, and is included in several of the blends used for emotional wellness. Juniper can be used topically, aromatically, or it can be consumed. When using as a supplement, put one drop in a capsule or in 4 fl. oz. of rice or goat’s milk.
Ylang Ylang has a floral aroma that has made it a romantic favorite across the globe. Ylang Ylang can promote feelings of calm and relaxation. It may even help to release feelings of anger, tension, and nervous irritability. Ylang Ylang is most often used topically, though it can be consumed as well when diluted. It is recommended to dilute 1 drop in 4 oz. of liquid such as rice milk.
