Carla Birnberg is Mrs. Fitness, or, as she is affectionately known in Blogland, Miz Fit. Carla has just released an e-book called How to Build Muscle and Lose Weight without Losing Your Mind, and she gave me a copy to read and review. Let me tell you, this e-book is perfect for someone who needs a little inspiration either getting a fitness plan started or getting back on track.
It is also perfect if you want motivation from someone who has been there, done that and who continues to find new ways to keep going. Carla herself went through a period of time when she needed to get healthier and in doing so she transformed her life. She is a genuine optimist whose enthusiasm jumps off the pages of her e-book as it does on her blog.
She shares her story and revelations in order to motivate readers, yet she recognizes that it is up to each individual to find out what works for them and to create their own success story. Carla provides tips and tricks from getting started to staying on track, all while recognizing that her readers are real people with real lives. Her focus is on encouragement yet she provides lots of tips and tricks in the book and in links to Youtube videos.
Here are a few of my favorite takeaways from the e-book:
“Exercise should fit into your life. Your life shouldn’t have to be fashioned around your fitness routine.” In other words, you do not have to turn into a fitness-aholic or spend all day at the gym in order to have success. You can have real responsibilities and still find time to exercise.
“Thankfully for those of us who are life-slammed and semi-undermotivated, altering one’s regimen in the smallest fashion can serve to break even the most tenacious of plateaus.” Small changes can lead to big results.
“When I lift weights I know I’m not, in that moment, thinking about how I’ll look in my
sleeveless top, but focusing upon how powerful I feel.” Success, no matter how small, is empowering. Enough said.
“We’re all different. We will all take a different approach to food and healthy eating. Each
of our bodies seeks something unique in order to function optimally.” You do not have to follow a gluten-free, Paleo or any other trendy diet to have success. Pay attention to the foods you are eating and figure out what fuels your body in a healthiest way.”
“For me everything became easier when I finally realized I’m never as far from my healthy path as my very next choice.” It is not about what has happened up until this point. Make healthier decisions going forward.
Carla’s motto is that fitness isn’t about fitting in. We may all have the same goal of living a longer, healthier more vibrant life, but we can each create our own unique path for how we get there.
