Last Saturday, my friend Leslie got her black belt in karate at the age of 42. She started adult classes in her mid thirties at the same karate school as her two sons. At the karate school’s show when each member of the black belt class got a chance to show their skills, she finished off with a round-off back handspring. She had been working on that skill for months in addition to her black belt training (and parenting three kids). Did I mention that she is 42?
To me, beauty starts on the inside and finishes on the outside. Beauty is confidence, grace, pride, kindness, strength and determination. Leslie is a shining example of that. And, she can kick your ass.
That is my definition of beautiful. What does beautiful mean to you?
This month Under Armour has set up a challenge to help women define their own personal goals. At http://whatsbeautiful.ua.com you can document your journey towards reaching that goal and telling your story. You can post photos and videos of your progress too. The Under Armour What’s Beautiful community is growing by the minute and the women in the challenge are poised, ambitious and ready to show the world their beauty.
The goal is to help women define our own definition of beauty and encourage us to keep going. Under Armour will also be posting challenges along the way to help you reach your goal. You can even create your own challenges and prove to yourself that you can reach them. Each week Under Armour will be giving away Swag Bags full of gear to women who are seriously bringing it.
On or around November 6th they are going to select 20 finalists, then announce the 10 people who have documented the most impressive, motivated, monumental stories. All 10 winners will be flown to Clearwater, Florida, in early 2013 to train with Under Armour trainers at Camp Sweat. Winners will also get a chance to meet with nutrition experts and receive spa treatments. Now that is a great prize!
