Did you happen to see this story on the Today Show or in the Huffington Post today? It’s a tear jerker.
David Smith hasn’t had an easy life. He was sexually molested as a child and then lost his mother at age 17. To deal with his troubles, David turned to food. Before long he was a whopping 650 pounds.
Determined to lose the weight, David worked with a trainer and lost an amazing 400 pounds in 26 months with no surgery.
That’s when the story changes. David enjoyed his new life in his new body, but only for a while. Inside he was still a mess because he hadn’t dealt with the issues that led him to the weight gain in the first place. On top of that he felt a new-found pressure to be an inspiration to people around him who were struggling.
David quietly turned to drugs and alcohol and then back to his original nemesis, food. Today he has gained back 300 pounds and is starting his weight loss journey over again, this time working through the issues that got him to such an extreme position in the first place.
The moral of the story, at least to me, is that we all have our demons and we all have our vices. If we don’t deal with the demons, either we will never conquer the vices or we will find new ones to take their place. So do everything in your power to deal with your demons. You deserve that and more.
