Today is a special day in the blogosphere, as bloggers around the world are uniting for a day of compassion, kindness, support, and caring. Today, we are flooding the blogosphere with voices for the greater good. The timing is just perfect, since today is also United Nations’ World Day of Social Justice.
Social justice is so incredibly vital for a peaceful coexistence among people (and nations). It goes hand-in-hand with the concept of compassion and respect towards others. It is vital to peaceful coexistence among people (and nations). Social justice goes hand-in-hand with the concept of compassion, and of respect towards others.
Observance of this day began in 2007, as a way to encourage people to support efforts of the international community in poverty eradication, the promotion of full employment and decent work, gender equity, and access to social wellbeing and justice for all.
We will move forward as a society only when we stand up and work together to remove barriers that people face every day because of gender, age, race, ethnicity, religion, culture or disability. And we will advance these issues only when we can show compassion and fairness towards all people.
While I set out to write about compassion today in honor of #1000Speak and the Day of Social Justice, as I began to type it occurred to me that some of the greatest minds of time have said the words in a more articulate way than I ever could.
Please join us today, as we speak out about compassion and the need for social justice.
