March is a big month for organizations that promote wellness. Not only is National Nutrition Month, it is also National Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, National MS Education and Awareness Month, National Endometriosis Awareness Month, and National Brain Injury Awareness Month. That sure is a lot of awareness.
Throughout the month, organizations supporting each of these causes will seek to raise awareness about both the risks and potential treatments for these medical concerns. In order to treat these issues, or any other medical concern for that matter, there is one thing everyone needs. Everyone needs to have insurance.
More than 1 in 6 Americans do not have health insurance. More than half of those who are uninsured can find insurance for less than $100 per month. Instead, people who are uninsured are risking their health as well as their family’s financial future. All it takes is one fall, one accident, one injury, or one illness.
And it always seems to happen when you least expect it. A missed red light, a bug going around the classroom, a slip on the ice, or a collision while sliding into home plate can all and up costing an uninsured family thousands of dollars.
Enrollment for health coverage is still open, but just for a little while longer. March 31st is the last day of the 2014 open enrollment. Unless you have a qualifying life event such as getting married, relocating to an area with different health plans, or having a baby, you will have to wait until next year.
