3 Easy, Healthy Smoothie Recipes for Kids

There are some great green-drink recipes out there now so I thought it might be time to share our own. Our son has been drinking a protein smoothie every morning before school for the past year. It is healthy, he loves it, the smoothie goes down fast, and we can be sure that he is getting a full serving of protein to keep him satisfied during the day. Since we found that first smoothie recipe he loves, we have added two more that he gulps down just as easily.

The thing about these green drinks and healthy smoothies is that while a recipe is helpful for guidance, they really should be made to taste. After listing the ingredients, I added a few hacks to the recipe that give it more of a personal touch. So go ahead, try them, and let me know what you think!

We blend all of the ingredients together in a Vitamix for approximately 60 seconds, though a Ninja or another high-powered blender would work just fine too. We prefer to use coconut milk in our smoothies, though any type of milk would do.

The trick to these is cutting up bananas into 1-2 inch pieces and freezing them overnight. We keep a small container in the freezer at all times so we can make smoothies.

Chocolate Banana Smoothie3 Easy, Healthy, Kid-Friendly Smoothie Recipes
1 Cup of Coconut Milk
1 Frozen Banana
2 Tablespoons of Frozen Spinach
1 Tablespoon of Cocoa Powder
1 Scoop of Protein Powder
1 Tablespoon of Honey
3-4 Ice Cubes

By blending all of these ingredients together really well, you can’t even see the spinach in the final product. Shhh. Don’t tell your kids they just drank spinach.

Recipe Hack: Swap out the honey for chocolate syrup for more of a dessert smoothie, or add a pinch of cinnamon. A banana and a half might be preferred.

Green Honey Banana Smoothie
1 Cup of Coconut Milk
1 Frozen Banana
½ of an Avocado
1 Teaspoon of Frozen Spinach
1 Tablespoon of Honey
2 Teaspoons of Vanilla
3-4 Ice Cubes

Recipe Hack: This smoothie gets creamy quickly due to the avocado, so it may not require as much blending time to reach your desired consistency. Just make sure the spinach is well-blended.

Creamy Tropical Smoothie
3/4 Cup of Coconut Milk
1 Frozen Banana
1/3 of an Avocado
4-5 cubes of Frozen Mango
4-5 cubes of Frozen Papaya
2 Teaspoons of Vanilla

Recipe Hack: We add 2 teaspoons of vanilla to dull the tartness of the mango. If you prefer a bit of tartness, reduce or eliminate the vanilla. Add a teaspoon of honey for sweetness as desired.
