This is the week I turn 40 years old. Thought I have a small celebration planned with a few close friends, I have been itching to do something more. Why not do something that really counts? Why not make this birthday by more meaningful by giving it to others?
And that is precisely what I will do. Through the Pay It Forward foundation, I am going to celebrate not just with friends but by pledging my 40th birthday to others. The “Birthday Pledge” means that you donate an act of kindness for each year you are celebrating. However old you are on your birthday is the number of kind acts you pledge to do throughout the day.
An act of kindness can range from holding the door for someone to making a charitable donation; from giving a hug to treating a friend to a cup of coffee. Think about any way that you can make someone’s day just a little bit brighter.
One day. 40 acts of kindness.
By doing this I hope to not only brighten several others’ day, but also to show that 40 acts of kindness can be done in just one day, we can certainly do a few kind acts every day.
Albert Einstein was right. If you do things that count, you should not need to count them. Though every once in a while, isn’t kindness something we can celebrate?
I have several ides of kindness acts I would like to do on Saturday. If you have suggestions, I would love to hear them! Leave a comment below.
